8.April 2020. Der Internationale Roma-Tag
Seit 1971 ist der Internationale Roma-Tag der wichtigsteTag, an dem Roma gegen Diskriminierung, Rassismus und Verfolgung und für Gleichberechtigung kämpfen. Da wir dieses Jahr nicht auf die Straße gehen können, zeigen wir euch Filme zur Situation von Roma in Europa.
The Awakening. Dokufilm am 8. April
Der Dokumentarfilm The Awakening zeigt Momentaufnahmen der politischen und sozialen Lage von Roma in Europa. Der Film ist eine Art Work in Progress und wird stetig verändert, um aktuellen Geschehnissen gerecht zu werden. Was sich nicht verändert, sind die grundlegenden Themen, die der Film behandelt: der Kampf der Roma fürs Bleiberecht, die Folgen für die von Abschiebung Betroffenen (insbesondere für Kinder und Jugendliche) sowie der Rechtsruck in Europa.
Seit Beginn der Jugoslawienkriege sind mittlerweile fast 30 Jahre vergangen, und mehrere Generationen von Roma sind in einer Situation der Heimatlosigkeit aufgewachsen oder in sie hineingeboren worden. Ein Zuhause gibt es für Roma in den Balkanstaaten nicht mehr, daher kommen sie nach ihrer Abschiebung wieder. Endlich ein Bleiberecht und gesellschaftliche Beteiligung zu erwirken – das gehört zu den wichtigsten Zielen von Roma-Initiativen wie alle bleiben!, deren Kämpfe im Film gezeigt werden.
Der Film zeigt auch, dass die Diskriminierung gegen Roma durch das wieder zunehmende Erstarken rechter Bewegungen und Parteien in Europa verstärkt wird und sie immer wieder Ziel nationalistischer Angriffe und anderer Menschenrechtsverletzungen werden.

Since 1971, International Roma Day has been the most important day on which Roma fight against discrimination, racism and persecution and for equal rights. As we cannot be on the streets this year, we will show you films about the situation of Roma in Europe.
The Awakening. Documentary on 8 April
The documentary The Awakening shows snapshots of the political and social situation of Roma in Europe. The film is a kind of work in progress and is constantly being changed to reflect current events. What does not change are the fundamental issues the film deals with: the Roma struggle for the right to stay, the consequences for those affected by deportation (especially children and youth) and the shift to the right in Europe.
Almost 30 years have now passed since the beginning of the Yugoslavian wars, and several generations of Roma have grown up in or been born into a situation of rootlessness. There is no longer a home for Roma in the Balkans, so they return after deportation. To finally achieve a right to stay and social participation – that is one of the most important goals of Roma initiatives such as alle bleiben whose struggles are shown in the film.
The film also shows that discrimination against Roma is intensified by the renewed rise of right-wing movements and parties in Europe and that they are repeatedly the target of nationalist attacks and other human rights violations.
